When I started searching for Japanese brand rice cookers, I often run into the technical term, “fuzzy logic” or “neuro fancy logic“.
I first thought it must be related to fluffiness of rice by the sound of the word, fuzzy lol. Yup, I was wrong!
I also thought is it just another fancy term used for marketing pitch?? Their product details don’t really explain what it means.. I wasn’t 100% sold so I decided to search what it really means!
Here are what I learned about the fuzzy logic!

The Definition of Fuzzy Logic

The meaning of fuzzy is “lacking in clarity or definition” according to the English dictionary. It also means “vague“.
So, the fuzzy logic means “vague” logic…? I got even more confused.
The definition of fuzzy logic is an approach to computing based on “degrees of truth” rather than the usual “true or false” (1 or 0) Boolean logic on which the modern computer is based.1
It turns out that the fuzzy logic is an intelligent system used in the automobile system, consumer electronics, medicine, software, chemicals and even aerospace!1
Summary
Simply put, the rice cooker equipped with the fuzzy logic is capable of performing the detailed work that could only be done by human intuition and experience.
It can make fine adjustments to the cooking temperature and heating time to cook perfect rice every time.
Neuro-fuzzy algorithm is superior to fuzzy logic algorithm for load sensor. 2
Wow, now I am impressed with these findings! It turns out that the term “fuzzy logic” is not a marketing pitch but rather an advanced intelligent system. The fuzzy logic controller microchip in the rice cooker can think like humans and adjust the cooking temperature and time to make the perfect tasting rice every single time!
